About eyelash mites

One of the causes of itchy eyes is related to the eyelash mite. An eyelash mite is a parasite that lives on a person's hair follicles, especially the eyelashes. They are most likely to be found where there is dandruff at the roots of the eyelashes.

Eyelash mites are mainly found in the eyelashes, with about half of all adults being infected by an eyelash mite. Although eyelash mites are basically harmless, overgrowth of eyelash mites can cause symptoms such as itchy eyes, dry eyes, and an irritating sensation in the eyes.

Large numbers of eyelash mites can irritate the mucous membranes and cause irritation.

Eyelash mites breed by feeding on skin oils and makeup stains around the eyes.

Regular cleansing and rinsing of the eyelash area, especially around the eyes, will help to prevent the mites from breeding.
